Our Organization"As humans, we can identify galaxies light years away and we can study particles smaller than an atom, but we still haven't unlocked the mystery of the 3 lbs of matter that sits between our ears."
- President Barack Obama "The University of Maryland Neuroscience Society strives to motivate discussion in the burgeoning field of neuroscience. We seek inform the University of Maryland community as well as enable students and faculty to play an active role in academic and service initiatives in neuroscience. By creating an environment that brings together undergraduate students, graduate students, physicians, and researchers, the University of Maryland Neuroscience Society acts as the central hub for anyone that shares an interest in the field to delve deeper, whether it's curiosity or a serious career goal. Through seminars, workshops, and guest lectures from diverse backgrounds, we inform and raise awareness about neurological diseases and basic research discoveries. We strongly feel that in order to truly appreciate the impact that research in the field of neuroscience has made and will continue to make, one must be able to place the science in context of society. In order to achieve this, we conduct various outreach activities in the D.C. metropolitan area and other communities surrounding the University of Maryland to understand the realities behind diseases and how promoting the field will address them. Ultimately, we hope that the University of Maryland Neuroscience Society will be a resource for the University of Maryland community to orient interested individuals to one of many hot-topic disciplines today."
